Earth day was originally founded on April 22 1970 by Gaylord Nelson (a United States congressman concerned about the environmental affects the nation was having on the world). 20 million Americans took to protesting and rallying behind environmentalism in 1970. Environmentalism became a new political stance and even forced it’s way into global politics. In 1990 Earth day became a world wide day of celebration for the environment.
